MT. LEBANON PUBLIC LIBRARY

REPLACES:              August 8, 1991

PURPOSE:  To state the reasons for participating in library-related organizations and to list the approved organizations.

STATEMENT OF POLICY:

The library recognizes that library advocacy, support, and professional organizations help the library staff provide better service to the community.  To demonstrate its support of these organizations the library will pay the membership fee or meet other membership requirements necessary to belong as an institutional member to the following organizations:

Acronym            Name
ACLA                 Allegheny County Library Association
ALA                    American Library Association
EiNetwork           Electronic Information Network
PaLA                  Pennsylvania Library Association
PALINET            Cooperative membership organization for institutions and
                          organizations to promote library cooperation and resource sharing.

Additionally, individual memberships will be paid for the following:

American Library Association - Library Director, Department Heads, and President
of the Library Board
Pennsylvania Library Association – All library trustees and professional librarians
on staff.

Active participation by the library board and staff in these organizations, including attendance at conferences and meetings is encouraged.  Expenses for travel, meals, lodging and registration will be paid by the library within the limits of the budget.
