Mt. Lebanon Public Library and The Historical Society of Mt. Lebanon welcome you to this online historical archive. It represents the proud and storied history of this community.
Although the first land patent was surveyed in 1770, Mt. Lebanon's rural countryside began to change in 1901 when the first streetcar arrived. It soon became "Pittsburgh's premier automobile suburb," a distinctive example of the desire to live outside America's cities.
This and following pages are parts of a joint project to capture the pictorial history of Mt. Lebanon, Dormont, and Castle Shannon, Pennsylvania. Funding was provided in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
