Social Services
Through partnerships with local social service organizations, our library can assist you with getting connected to services that you need now. We want our patrons to be aware that the following services are available free of charge to you or to someone you may know.
Social Work
NEW: A Helping Hand in Your Neighborhood
Services for all library patrons:
Supportive care for mental health crises
General social service referrals (Connecting people to appropriate services)
Assistance in applying for online benefits (food stamps, housing, heating)
Open in-library office hours on Wednesdays from 2-4pm
Services for Mt. Lebanon residents:
If you are a resident of Mt. Lebanon you are eligible to receive on-going, individualized case management services.
You will receive direct counseling for a variety of support services. These services include employment seeking, assistance in procuring financial resources, mental health services, or all of the above.

About Jaqui Stilson
Jaqui is a Pittsburgh native, originally hailing from Penn Hills. She received her degrees in psychology and social work, including a Masters from the University of Pittsburgh. Jaqui has worked with a multitude of populations, including veterans, the unhoused, and those with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Before coming to Mt. Lebanon, Jaqui worked for resolve Crisis Services for seven years across all of their services. She also serves on the South Hills Critical Incident Response Team as a negotiator. When not at work, you can find her hiking the trails of Allegheny County, weightlifting, and crocheting.
Jaqui will be at Mt. Lebanon Public Library from 2 to 4pm, Wednesdays. Patrons are invited to stop by; no appointment necessary... just check in at the reference desk.
Social Work in Libraries Program
Need a Helping Hand? Social Work in Libraries Program is here to help!
The Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, is providing a new service in community libraries. Through the program, social work students are matched with local libraries to assist with community needs. Services are free and open to all! Immigrant Services and Connections (ISAC)
ISAC is a multi-agency partnership that connects immigrants living in Allegheny County with resources. ISAC provides navigation support or service coordination, depending on the level of support needed. Are you looking for immediate assistance without an appointment? Drop in on Mondays from 9-1 at Mt. Lebanon Library. We can help with: completing benefit renewal paperwork, learning how to refill a prescription via automated system, submitting a maintenance request to a landlord, contacting a children's teacher, locating a health care provider, and more.
PA Navigate
PA Navigate is a free, easy-to-use web site that allows anyone to search for local services, such as food assistance, housing support, medical care, and assistance finding employment, simply by entering a zip code.
BigBurgh
BIGBURGH.COM is a mobile-optimized web site that pulls together the services that can help the homeless (or those at risk of being homeless) in the City of Pittsburgh. It includes only those services that are free, good, and welcoming, especially to those without an address.
ESL and GED Services
Are you new to the country and would like to be connected with an ESL program? Are you studying for a GED?
We recommend connecting with Literacy Pittsburgh. Their literacy programs focus on College and Career Readiness and English Language Learning. The library hosts weekly ESL conversation classes for Literacy of Pittsburgh students and a monthly drop-in program for everyone. It is easy to connect yourself or someone you know to Literacy Pittsburgh. Many Literacy Pittsburgh students meet with their tutors in our library study rooms. Career Help
Are you looking for a job or thinking about a career change? The library has partnerships with two non-profit organizations that provide specialized career development support.
JFCS Career Services
A counselor from JFCS Career Services meets at our library weekly on Thursdays from 9:30am-2:30pm. Offering expert guidance and proven strategies, our seasoned career counselors will provide personal attention every step of the way. Whether you are seeking employment or a career change, we'll help you to explore your options, define your objectives, and develop the strategy and tools required to achieve your career goals.

Pennsylvania Women Work
If you are a new American seeking employment, re-entering the workforce after a career break, or just feeling stuck in your job search, the library offers an additional in-person counseling opportunity with Pennsylvania Women Work. You can work one-on-one with a career coach to gain the skills and confidence needed to get started in a new career.
To schedule an appointment with Nancy Estrada, the PA Women Work Program Manager, call 412-742-4364 or email her at nestrada@pawomenwork.org. She is available to meet on Tuesdays at the library from 1-4 pm.
